A graceful villa built at the turn of last century, The Peppertree bed and breakfast , Blenheim, is an historic homestead offering old fashioned ambience, accommodation and service. The original native timber detailing, antique furnishings and restrained sense of style combine to recreate the elegance of an age gone by.

Though just five minutes from Blenheim the bed and breakfast nestles in leafy seclusion within ten acres of rich farmland, promising a relaxing and peaceful stay.

Built in 1901 from native timbers, The Peppertree luxury bed and breakfast is located in 10 acres of lush farmland and surrounded by an extensive country garden, a boutique vineyard and olive grove.

Stroll around the lovely garden planted with New Zealand native trees and soak up the birdsong, fresh air and relaxing atmosphere. Enjoy a mouth-watering breakfast in the rich ambience of the dining room with its open fireplace, or perhaps savoir the taste of a superb glass of world famous Marlborough wine, as you stroll within the tranquil setting that is The Peppertree.

The Peppertree experience can be as full or as relaxing as visitors wish - from soaking up the Marlborough sun around the swimming pool, a game of pétanque or croquet, or an individual tour exploring the Blenheim and Marlborough wineries.

The Peppertree's vineyard

The Peppertree has its own boutique vineyard, located directly in front of the historic homestead.

For Heidi and Werner, the boutique vineyard is one of their passions and as a winemaker, Werner brings the best of his European influences and combines this with the groundbreaking new world winemaking techniques best seen in places like Marlborough. Guests are afforded the luxury of sampling and extolling the virtues of wine with a passionate winemaker who is involved in every step of the process.

The Peppertree's olive grove

Wine and food are undeniable companions. Today in Marlborough, the olive and its oil products are increasingly joining wine as an attraction to our region.

The Peppertree's first olive harvest was in 2004, Heidi and Werner Pluess extract their own olive oil as well as using the olives for pickling and tapenade.

The Peppertree's orchard

Stroll around the orchard and enjoy picking your own apples, cherries, apricots, peaches, plums, feijoas, pears, kiwifruit, figs, oranges, mandarins, grapefruits, lemons, raspberries or boysenberries, depending on the season.

Rooms at The Peppertree

The Peppertree has five well appointed and beautifully detailed suites for guests, each with their own particular character and charm complete with fireplace, verandah or balcony.

All of our rooms are supplied with coffee and tea, home-baked cookies and fresh fruit, electric blankets, a nice selection of toiletries, hairdryer, high quality bathrobe, colour TV's and telephone. Internet access is available to our guests.

Suites

William Morris Suite

The charm of yesteryear is evoked as you enter this large, gracious room with queen size bed and antique furniture, including a magnificent chaise longue, kauri scotch chest and antique oval mirror.

The room is spacious and airy, attracting all day sun through large windows and double doors. The doors open out on to a private verandah, courtyard and garden, and offer an alternative entrance.

A large private bathroom completes the suite. It has both bath and shower and is tastefully furnished in keeping with the theme of the homestead.

Dormer Suite

Nestled under the dormer roof, up a short flight of stairs, is a charmingly romantic suite of rooms ideal for a honeymoon couple seeking quietness, privacy and seclusion. The highlight of the room is the magnificent white queen size bed, prettily draped in white muslin and bedecked with cushions and pillows.

A balcony overlooks the courtyard and attractive garden and the eye is drawn over the trees to the majestic mountains in the distance.

The large adjoining ensuite is light and spacious with tiled walls, and incorporates a spa/bath, shower and a delightful little picture window depicting The Peppertree design, after which the villa was named.

Sunset Suite

Aptly named for its aspect that allows you to enjoy the sun setting in the west, this pretty room has french doors leading to a private garden.

Here, the songs of bellbirds, fantails and other New Zealand native birds greet you in the morning.

Climbing roses, pretty hedges, shrubs and blossom trees surround this sanctuary where you may choose to take breakfast alfresco.

The garden allows private access to your suite. An attractive ensuite adjoins the Sunset room, providing a shower and special non slip tiles under foot.

Garden Suite

If you need a delightful place to relax then you will enjoy the peace on offer in the Garden Suite. This generously proportioned and tastefully decorated room includes a beautifully New Zealand crafted solid wood stand-alone wardrobe complete with full length mirror. Your eye is drawn to the imposing French doors leading on to a verandah and garden with a calming water feature, inviting you to enjoy the evening sunshine.

There are twin or king size bed options and attractive New Zealand prints adorn the walls.

You step down into an attractive ensuite bathroom with shower and non-slip tiles.

Venetian Suite

Newly created in keeping with the Edwardian style, tastefully furnished and mirroring the charm of Venice. This spacious room is most comfortable and has access to a verandah and garden where ferns, bamboo and native shrubs provide a wonderful backtrop to the delightful water feature. It’s the perfect spot to unwind at the end of an active day and it also offers an alternative entrance.

There are twin or king size bed options.
The attractive ensuite bathroom with shower is on level grounds and generously proportioned.

This suite has full wheelchair access and facilities for the disabled.
